Kirkens Klokke Ringes

Klokkeringningen afsluttes af tre gange tre bedeslag.

Bell Ringing

The bell rings—ending with three times three strokes.
Traditionally the ringing consists of 100 strokes followed by the Prayer Strokes, which are three times three single strokes. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Many people will say these words to themselves as a little prayer before the Church service begins.

Hilsen

Præsten: Herren være med jer! Menigheden: Og med din ånd.

Greeting

Pastor: The Lord be with you. Congregation: And with your spirit.

Indledningskollekt

Præsten beder en bøn fra alteret. Menigheden svarer: Amen!

Collect of the Day

The pastor says a prayer from the altar. The congregation responds: Amen!

First Reading

The congregation stands while the pastor reads from the Old Testament.
The congregation stands when we meet God in the readings from the altar and from the pulpit (and during Baptism, and when the Holy Communion is instituted). Consequently, we do not stand during the hymns.

Anden Salme

Second Hymn

Second Reading

The congregation stands while the pastor reads from the New Testament.
As most Lutheran churches we use a prescribed list of readings. That the readings are determined ahead of time keeps the sermon focussed on our faith even if the prescribed readings occasionally prove a challenge to the pastor who wants to respond to current events.
If the service includes baptism, it is inserted here.

Trosbekendelsen

Menigheden rejser sig og læser trosbekendelsen. Præsten: Lad os bekende vor kristne tro:

Creed

The congregation stands while reading the Creed. Pastor: Let us confess our Christian faith:
We use the Apostles’ Creed prefaced with a renunciation of the Devil. In this world we need to be reminded who is the enemy for whom all the meaningless evil of this world is deliberate. Then can we turn from all evil and to God in whom we confess our faith.
We renounce the devil and all his works and all his ways.
We believe in God the Father, almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
We believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. On the third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is sitting at the right hand of God the Father, almighty. From there He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen! Amen!
Vi synger:
Lad verden ej med al sin magt
os rokke fra vor dåbes pagt;
men giv, at al vor længsel må
til dig, til dig alene stå!
We sing:
Let not the world lead us astray,
that we our Christian faith betray,
but grant that all our longings be,
O Lord! for You eternally.
A stanza from Your little ones, dear Lord, are we (GGG056, Her kommer, Jesus, dine små) by H.A. Brorson.

Tredie Salme

Third Hymn

Third Reading

The pastor goes onto the pulpit, says a short prayer, and announces that This Holy Gospel is written by the Evangelist….
The congregation stands and responds: We give You praise God, for Your glad and joyful message.

Prædiken

Sermon

The three readings always have a common theme. In the sermon, the pastor emphasises or explains this theme and illustrates it with examples or stories from ‘real life’ or literature. You can find a recent sermon here.

Kirkebøn

Prayer of the Church

We pray for all who are in need of help. We pray for God’s Holy Universal Church and for us within it. We pray for our country, all its lawful authorities, and our Queens and their families.

Velsignelse

Amen.

Apostolic Blessing

The congregation stands for the blessing. Pastor: The Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
2nd Corinthians 13:14
Vi synger:
Jeg hjertets dør vil åbne dig,
o Jesus, drag dog ind til mig!
Ja, ved din nåde lad det ske,
at jeg din kærlighed må se!
We sing:
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
praise Him, all creatures here below;
praise Him above, ye heav’nly host;
praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost!
Gør døren høj, gør porten vid by Georg Weissel and N.J. Holm. Praise God, from whom all blessings flow (GGG006) by T. Ken.

Fjerde Salme

Fourth Hymn

Nadverbøn

Præsten: Opløft jeres hjerter til Herren! Lad os prise hans navn!

Communion Prayer

Pastor: Lift up your hearts to the Lord! Let us praise His name!
Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord, God the Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come. Revelation 4:8
Menigheden: Hosianna i det højeste! Congregation: Hosanna in the highest! Matthew 21:9
Pastor: Blessed be He that comes in the name of the Lord!
Menigheden: Hosianna i det højeste! Congregation: Hosanna in the highest!
Vi synger:
O du Guds lam!
med korsets skam
du bar al verdens synder,
derfra al trøst begynder;
miskundelig
forbarm du dig!
We sing:
You Lamb of God, upon the cross,
salvation wrought and founded;
true comfort hence abounded.
Your mercy show
to us below.
From the hymn by N.F.S. Grundtvig—who obviously based his hymn on the Agnus Dei of the Catholic mass. (GGG230, O, du Guds Lam! med korsets skam)
Præsten læser resten af nadverbønnen. The pastor reads the remainder of the Communion prayer.

Fadervor

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
giv os i dag vort daglige brød, Give us this day our daily bread;
og forlad os vor skyld, som også vi forlader vore skyldnere, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us;
og led os ikke ind i fristelse, men fri os fra det onde. and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.
Amen! Amen

Altergang

Menigheden rejser sig, når præsten læser indstiftelsesordene:

Communion

The congregation stands for the Consecration.
Pastor: In the night in which He was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it and said, This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me. Likewise, after supper, He took the cup saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. 1st Corinthians 11:23–25
All baptised Christians are welcome to participate in Communion. If you cannot negotiate the steps to the altar, please take Communion in one of the front pews. If you cannot kneel, please remain standing. Our regular communion wafers contain wheat; if you prefer the rice based alternative, please leave your hands on the railing as the wafers are distributed. If you prefer grape juice to wine, please hold your finger over the cup as a sign to the pastor.
Efter altergang synger vi:
Lykkes og trives,
styrkes, oplives,
skal dine små,
vokse i kræfter,
stige derefter,
højeloft nå,
himle, hvor øjet, som græder ej mer,
gudernes Gud i sin herlighed ser.
After the Communion we sing:
Rich in Your blessing,
onward progressing
are now Your friends,
strengthened in spirit,
each by Your merit
upwards ascends
till, when at home in that city of gold,
all shall in wonder Your presence behold.
A stanza from Fair beyond telling (GGG201, Hyggelig, rolig, Gud, er din bolig) by N.F.S. Grundtvig.

Slutningskollekt

Præsten beder en bøn fra alteret. Menigheden svarer: Amen!

Thanksgiving Prayer

The pastor says a prayer from the altar. The congregation responds: Amen!

Velsignelse

Menigheden rejser sig, og præsten læser velsignelsen:

Benediction

The congregation stands for the Benediction.
Pastor: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you. The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24–26
Menigheden svarer: Amen, amen, amen! The congregation responds: Amen, amen, amen! This is the three-fold amen which in North America is known as the Danish Amen.

Femte Salme

Fifth Hymn

Udgangsbøn

Closing Prayer

Announcements

The pastor reads the announcements and then asks the congregation to stand and sing Tider skal komme.
Tider skal komme,
tider skal henrulle,
slægt skal følge slægters gang;
aldrig forstummer
tonen fra Himlen
i sjælens glade pilgrimssang.
That we end every service by singing this stanza from Beauty is ’round us (GGG077, Dejlig er jorden) by B.S. Ingemann was instituted by Pastor Rasmussen.
