The President’s Report, 2012

Knud Nielsen It is time for the annual report. We have had so many things happening this year that it is hard to know where to start. After last AGM the board formed a fund raising committee to raise money for the building project.

We started with a very successful lunch on May 11 that kicked off our fund raising for the rest of the year, and we have been very successful, the support from the members and the Danish community has been great, and I think it shows with the progress we have made in the last year. The New Auxiliary is now making sandwiches for some of the kroaften at Danish House, and donating the profit of that effort to the building fund.

On June 3 we had a visit from Margit Pedersen from DSUK. She took time after her visit to Calgary where she was attending the official opening of their church’s new location. Margit Petersen was very impressed we our progress, with her help we also at that time extended Pastor Bodil’s contract for a year. That year is just about up, so we will see what happens next, Bodil has not found a job in Denmark yet, so we might have the pleasure of her services for some time to come.

May 2 was the day for a new experiment, we had a “New2you” parking lot sale. Even though the weather did not favour us we did have fun, it was a lot of work but a great success, we profited close to $2000.00

On September 11 we had an extraordinary general meeting to bring the congregation up to date on the building project. It was a good feeling to show what we had accomplished. It was surprising to people that everything done to that date was in fact paid for. I left that meeting with the feeling that the membership was satisfied with the way we had proceeded.

On October 18 we had great concert at the church. With a lot of work from the music committee we managed to get the Danish National Youth Brass Band to perform for us, we had some problems with the cost of transportation, but Danish House society and DCCC stepped up and took care of that problem.

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the members of the board for their hard work in the past year, and I look forward to working with you next year. Thank you to Pastor Bodil for your sermons and for keeping us all in line.

I was hesitant when I took on the job last year, but with a well functioning board and a supportive congregation it has been a pleasure working for our church.

Knud Nielsen, President.
