The President’s Written Report, 2003

Knud Nielsen Once again it is time to reflect on the year that has past, as usual it has been a busy year. We had something happening in this building just about every day of the year, that is wonderful and a big thank-you goes out to all the volunteers who help and participate in all the activities. There is now two Finish congregations using our building on a regular bases. At Christmas there was a Norwegian service as well as the regular Swedish Christmas service. It is nice to see the other Scandinavian countries use our Church; it brings us all closer together.

The board held eleven regular and one extra special board meeting. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the board members for their hard work and dedication to our Church. A special thank you to Flemming Nielsen, Betty Mortensen and Gerd Mølhøj who will not be seeking re-election, it has been a pleasure having them on the Board.

We are working on a few new projects:

  1. Grethe Russell came up with the idea that we should make a calendar with all the Danish special dates and week numbers as well as the Canadian dates, some members of the Board have been working on this for some time now and it will be ready by 2004. We have spoken to the other Churches across Canada and they are very interested as well, these should prove to be great fundraisers.
  2. We are sold out of cookbooks, and the ladies have started to assemble a new book that hopefully will be printed in the fall. Our previous books have been a great success and another worthwhile fundraiser. Keep up the good work ladies!
  3. We have just received a letter from Resen Kirke confirming that they will donate their old pipe organ to us; I wanted confirmation first before getting everyone’s hopes up. Now we can set up an Organ Fund for the monies needed to have it sent over.
  4. Last but not least, we are working on a Memorial Walk. It would start from Jellinge Stenen and curve down towards the flagpoles and on towards gravhøjen where we would be able to scatter ashes, and then place a bronze plaque along the walk. We would build the walk from the flag poles to the gravhøj first, and as needed we would expand it back to Jellinge Stenen. We will have a drawing of the plaque at the A.G.M.

In closing I would like to say thank you to all the people who make this Church what it is, and a very special thank you to Kai and Dee.

Knud Nielsen, President.
